Marvel Studios' Black Widow - Official Teaser Trailer (Released)

The D23 trailer made it very clear it followed the Civil War immediately. Surprised this one doesn’t do that at all. The D23 Expo is Disney’s official convention they hold in the summer every two years. They do it in Anaheim and they have big panels about different things, like movies, theme parks, etc. They usually show exclusive and early looks at upcoming projects, like at Comic-Con. The D23 one started with her conversation with Tony in Civil War and how they’ll be coming for her next now that she let Steve go. Figured they’d hit it more on the nose like that to get the message across to audiences when this was taking place

There's a lot of discussions around Natalie really not enjoying the damsel in distress role she had in Thor 1, and after being promised an actual role in Thor 2 told Marvel to shove it (hyperbole) when she was "damsel in distress with goop inside her" I don't think she's in Marvel for the long haul, but trusts that she get some kickass moments and some proper closure to her story in Thor 4: 4 Thors.
Beta Rays arc could be involved? It's a lot to squeeze in one movie but I'd love to see it, and Taika is great at balancing weird ensemble casts.

I don't think Jane will take over from Odinson at the end of Love and Thunder. Chris has said he's happy to eat only chicken and broccoli for as long as the MCU will have him.
Complete guesswork but I think it's going to be some sort Flash Gordon jaunt across the galaxy whilst dealing with Thor finally being happy, Jane having cancer and taking up Mjölnir for some suitably cool/ daft Waititi esk reason, and Valkyrie finding her feet as the Queen of Asgard and the first overtly gay love story in the MCU

Marvel needs to sort of prime the audience for the fact that some characters can hand off the reigns of the identity to another person, and Florence Pugh is a good decade younger than Scarlett, which puts her at a good age to start her time in the MCU.
This movie could end up being less about Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, and more about introducing the next one.
We have Falcon taking over the Captain America shield and Jane Foster taking over Thor's hammer, so why not a new Black Widow?

ScarJo has confirmed that this movie will essentially be Black Widow’s equivalent of “Logan”.
That being said, I agree that Marvel/Disney really doesn’t do one-offs. I believe we’ll get a Black Widow trilogy starring Florence Pugh’s character as the Gen 2 Black Widow. I’m sure the end credits will feature Sam/Bucky meeting her, which will, of course, remind everyone they exist in time for their Disney+ show.

I know this is meant to be between Civil War and Infinity War but Natasha's hair looks way more similar to Endgame than anything. Also curious where are Cap and Falcon this whole time since she effectively joined their side by end of Civil War and were on the run together by the start of the Infinity War. She helped them during Civil War but she disappeared from the film after that (probably busy with the events of this film). She rejoined Cap sometime before Infinity War

If she’s supposed to be a spy and does take up the mantle, I’d imagine she could play it off like she can do different accents and just do an American one. Or maybe her own English accent which would be just as great.

I loved The Bourne Legacy. I really hoped for a new trilogy. Then Matt Damon came back and I thought “If the big man himself came back then this must be even better than what they had planned for Legacy”.

And that is a very comic book Taskmaster thing to do too, taskmaster always watches video footage of his opponents, it’s a thing he’s always done in the MCC. In a world of Avengers it would only make sense he would have studied each of them completely in preparation for the day they would inevitably cross paths

I still firmly believe she's lightly enhanced. She's shrugged off so many ridiculous inhuman feats of endurance throughout the films.
The grenade in the tank in Civil War alone should have eviscerated her and she walked off slightly limping. Russians gave her some shitty Red Room formula (which we know they had adjacent access to from the Winter Soldier formulas).

It's a combination of all the points. Not just one. Plus they've written him to be someone the audience gets on a level with and likes despite not appearing before. It's the kind of easy "emotional pull" they can use later to make people feel sad about the character dying without putting too much effort in or angering fans after killing a long-standing character.
